Suggested itinerary for a day trip to London

If you’re looking for ideas for a great day trip to London, why not combine a cruise along the River Thames with a visit to the iconic Tower of London.

Save money by booking your entry to the Tower at the same time as buying your cruise tickets with our special offer - you can add them to your cart once you’ve chosen the date.

Make sure you turn up to Westminster Pier in plenty of time to have a good look around Westminster before you board the boat.

Then, when you set sail, sit back and listen to the skipper’s entertaining commentary about the London landmarks you see along the route.

Disembark at St Katharine’s Dock Pier where it’s a short walk along the footpath to the entrance. The path will take you past Traitor’s Gate where prisoners accused of treason entered the Tower, most notably the wives Henry VIII beheaded - Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard - as well as Lady Jane Grey, Sir Thomas More and even Queen Elizabeth I who, as a princess under the rule of her half-sister Queen Mary (aka Bloody Mary), was wrongly accused of being involved in the Wyatt Rebellion.

It’s possible that you’ll spend all day at the Tower, but don’t forget the last boat back to Westminster leaves St Katharine’s Dock at 3.30pm in the winter (to 3 April 2017), or 5.30pm in the spring (3 April - 21 May 2017).

When you arrive back at Westminster Pier, finish the day in a leisurely fashion by either walking over the bridge to stroll along the South Bank and revisit some of the sights you passed on the river; or walk up Parliament Street/Whitehall to Nelson’s Column and Trafalgar Square.
